tilebraker

Tilebreaker is a short browser roguelike puzzle game about the last keeper of the Astral Archive.

Creatures from the Void are breaking into the Archive through cracks between the stars. The keeper has only a little living light left and a set of stone tiles marked with runic lines. Place red and blue sigils on the board, match their edges, close the loops, and cut the monsters off from reality.

Each battle is a choice of tempo: close a small, safe sigil now, or grow a larger loop while risking your hearts to draw a new hand.

Features

  • 5 short battles in one run.
  • Tactical tile placement on a 7x7 board.
  • Red and blue loops that must be closed into sigils.
  • A hand of 7 tiles and one reserve slot for future plans.
  • “Discard hand” button: a new hand costs hearts, so waiting for the perfect tile is dangerous.
  • Gold for closed sigils and a tile shop between battles.
  • Browser version, no installation required, playable with mouse or touch.

Controls

  • Mouse or touch: select a tile in your hand, then place it on an empty cell.
  • A tile can be placed next to other tiles if the edges match, or it can start a new island on an empty part of the board.
  • Reserve: save one selected tile for later or swap it with another tile.
  • Discard hand: pay the shown cost in hearts, discard your current hand, and draw a new one.
  • Shop: buy available tiles with gold or move on.

Status

This is a jam/MVP prototype. A full run is already playable, but balance, visual polish, and accessibility may still change after release.

Limitations

  • The current version is designed for mouse or touch; keyboard and gamepad are not supported.
  • The game requires distinguishing between red and blue lines; a dedicated colorblind mode is not ready yet.
  • Best played in a modern version of Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
